Brief Gig Reflectionz - The Drums and Best Coast.

So, my gaggle of Notts girlz and I were really late for The Drums, despite 75% of us (my three fabulous visitors, one of whom was the birthday girl) being MASSIVE fans, and the other 25% of us (me) being very excited to witness the uber trendy band of the moment live. We blame the snow. And the following incompetence of the national rail service.
I'm sorry to say that the whole night (including the night-long mess of a house party the followed) is a rum-fuelled blur, so only the hilarious/glorious/obscene essence of the night was preserved...
Even when acknowledging our wildly drunken haze and shame-faced tardiness, I'll say here and now that they were fucking tremendous. I must see them again. Soon.

And last night (yes, I was briefly rescued from the role of Barista and hardcore obsessive literature student twice in one week!), The Boy took me to see one of our many and much-loved favourites, Best Coast, who were supported by the Internet sensation and cocky Leicester band, Sex Beet, and the northern surprise that is Spectrals.
I remember slightly more of last evening, mostly due to limits in funds, exhaustion and a determination not to embarrass myself at the ultimate place-to-be, Glee Club.
To say the least, the venue was hip-as-fuck, packed with American Apparel dresses, acid-wash Cow cut-off jackets, Urban Outfitters beany hats, KG knee-high socks and a lot of pouting/posing/hair-flicking. I felt uneasily at home.
Despite this unnervingly pretentious surface, wavering sound quality in their support acts, and questionable talent of said supports, there is no denying the Best Coast are really fucking excellent, in quite a different manner to the album, but equally as addictive.
Listen to them. Go and see them. Fall in love with them. We certainly did. <3
